One of my helpers, Rhodie the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, loves these days as well. She has her little spot right in front of the fire. When she isn’t there, she is at my feet waiting for me to tell her it is break time. That’s when we bundle up and go out in the rain and wind so she can check on the squirrels and other critters in the yard. Jazz, the other Corgi, holds court in her chair on the other side of the room but is totally ready for the outside outing at a moment’s notice!

Today I have been writing book reviews for the December issue and having a totally great time. I am constantly amazed at how meaningful material just keeps on being published. The Universe just isn’t anywhere near through expressing itself!

Of interest is that today I received a review copy of Shakti Gawain’s book Creative Visualization (New World Library). This year is the 30th anniversary of its original publication. I think this is the book that many of us cut our metaphysical teeth on and I am looking forward to reading it again. Now it is out as a hardback with a nice cover and ribbon bookmark. If ever there was a time to use our powers of visualization, it is now! Most timely that this is being republished just now!

This was taken on the Oregon coast last year…so peaceful…

Right now there is so much going on in our world and a lot of it we can’t make sense of. It seems like nothing is like it used to be and this is reason for anxiety in itself. When we can’t count on things to be the way they always have been, it is difficult to feel safe and secure. That, however, is the cause of our anxiety. We are looking at the world outside ourselves to make sense and it doesn’t. Maybe it never did and we just thought it did.

True feelings of safety come from inside ourselves, not from the conditions, events, or people around us. When we feel secure within ourselves outer events might cause a blip in how we feel but they are not able to impact us to any great degree. How do we learn to be safe inside? 

Being safe inside comes from dealing with our issues, letting go of what no longer serves us, being clear about why we are here and where we are headed. Daily meditation and connecting ourselves with the angels and guides will support us in making the changes needed to feel more safe in a world gone increasingly mad.

This is one of my favorite waterfalls on the planet. Looking at waterfalls

can help you let go of what you don’t need anymore so you can move ahead with your life.

We had out monthly psychic fair in Monroe yesterday after having the last two months off. Although it was slower than some other months, the people who came so appreciated our being there. It feels great to provide a space for spiritually-oriented readers and healers to connect with people who want and need their services. We don’t plan to miss this event again until July 4th, 2009!

Our fairs are held the first Saturday of the month at the Best Western Hotel on highway 2 in Monroe from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the admission is always free.

Today is catch-up day but also time to relax a bit and study my Spanish before my tutoring session tomorrow morning!

I don’t remember where I read it, but there is someone who teaches that September is the time to plan your entire year. What are your goals for the next 12 months? What sort of experiences do you want to have? What do you want to do? The more I study different teachers, the more I keep coming back to practicing the Presence and being in the now – both two different ways to say the same thing.

Being in nature is one of the best ways I know to connect with your own inner Presence. It seems that when you spend time in nature and truly touch that place within yourself, it is easier to bring it back with you to the everyday world. Maybe you could even join these two ideas up: take a new journal or notebook and go sit outside while you ponder your current path and how you might like to enhance or change it.

This flower is for you! It can bring you feelings of joy and happiness which is what I wish for you!

Now as anyone knows who has been to a county fair, seeing the animals and 4H exhibits is certainly a big part of the fair. The next big part is the food! We started with an elephant ear. Rhonda snapped the photo while Martha and I dug in!

And then there is the great shopping. Both Rhonda and Martha like the shoes known as Crocs. At the fair they discovered there is an even better brand called Dawgs. Being canine lovers, all three of us had to get our Dawgs! I loved the colorful display at this booth.

Something we had never seen before was the sand horse that a fellow was sculpting outside one of the main halls. People’s creativity never ceases to amaze me!

I couldn’t bear to watch the Native Americans as they made their chainsaw art – another example of creativity that is simply amazing!

On our way out we saw a child who was climbing up a rock wall. He was on a safety rope, of course. It reminded me that when we seem to be stretching ourselves into learning something new, we always have safety ropes as well, so why hold back or be scared?

After such a wonderful day as we were leaving the fair, imagine our delight when we saw some beautiful flowers right near the exit. Not only did we have a fun day but right at the end we were blessed with angel-flowers. These are the memories to take with us as we move through our days. There is nothing like good friends, good food, and beauty – now that is what life is all about!

How we spend our time every day is so important as is how we earn our keep on this planet. If you follow your heart and get in touch with your soul’s purpose for  being here you will be so much closer to living your right livelihood.

Something Jamuna said which I loved was in response to one person who asked how to handle the situation where you are not in the job you love and are waiting to find that place. Jamuna said the best way is to do everything with great enthusiasm. By doing this, you will raise your energy which will put you in the place of attracting what will make you happy. Such wisdom!

How about it? Even if you are in your right place, can you bring enthusiasm to everything you are doing? Washing dishes, grooming the dog, or mowing the lawn — all of these things can be done with great enthusiasm. Give it a try and see what wonderful situations and people you attract to your life. And if it isn’t easy for you to do this, use the old “fake it ’til you make it” routine. Pretend you feel enthusiastic and pretty soon you will!

This morning I gave some tips for staying centered when the world around us seems to have gone mad. Here is the short version of what I shared:

1. Remember that life consists of cycles. Think of the moon phases, seasons of the year, day and night, etc… Whatever is going on around you is not permanent. It will change. When you keep this in mind, you know that you don’t have to be impacted by the cycles around you. Just surf whatever energies are happening, knowing they will change.

2. Pray and meditate daily – maybe even several times a day. Get yourself centered so you can weather any storm. I like to see myself as a tree with roots that go deep into the earth. When the winds hit, the top of the branches might sway – some might even fall off. The tree as a whole, however, is fine because of being so deeply rooted. Meditation is what gives you those roots.

3. Read inspiring literature; listen to inspirational CD programs; listen to radio shows like Conscious Talk. A few good books that could help you right now: The Prosperity Bible which is actually a collection of 16 books written in the early 20th century; Spiritual Economics by Eric Butterworth; and Hidden Power for Human Problems by Frederick Bailes. The material in these books is what a lot of current books are based on. I love going back to some of the earlier writings and seeing that these folks faced some of the very same issues we are facing today.

4. Associate with other positive people. Excuse yourself or change the subject if the “ain’t it awful” discussions start. No one is served by wallowing around in negativity. If you can’t change the subject or interject something positive, leave.

5. Focus on your service and why you are here. If you are busy giving your service, you won’t have time to worry about other things. And if you are out of work, try volunteering. There are plenty of organizations that could use your help and it will make you feel good about yourself. Who knows, you also might run into an employer who would want to hire you.

6. Be willing to change and adapt with the times. Don’t let yourself get stuck in the “what used to be’s.” Being stuck hurts. Moving with life feels good.

7. Have some fun. No matter what is going on in your world, remember to have some fun. Go to a movie. Read a good (or trashy) novel. Walk in the park. Play with your companion animal. Every day be sure you do something fun just because you want to! This will help keep your energy up and you feeling great!

Life is a journey with its ups and downs and when we embrace this life really can become an adventure. Enjoy it!
